In
addition to the time spent reminiscing with good friends and
associates, we are pleased to announce that during parts of
the evening, several of Atlanta's premier performing Artists from the era
will be joining in the celebration. We are truly grateful to
all the talented musicians who, assuming their current schedules
remain open, have agreed to be a part of our Reunion.
The
MUSIC HOST for the evening will be Peter Stroud, Atlanta guitarist
for national recording artist, Sheryl Crow, putting together some of
Atlanta's finest players, who received national recognition during
the 70's and early 80's, to play collectively.
We
are also tentatively planning a "limited" segment of the
evening for "accomplished" members on the Invite List to
grab a guitar, bass, keyboard, or drum sticks, just for the sake of
posterity and fun.
Musicians,
confirm your reservation with Peter and/or Lynn Stroud at stroud@mindspring.com
or 770-939-8045. Peter will confer with you via phone regarding the
evening's logistics.
During
the evening, we will hopefully see these entertainers, and more to
be announced soon !

Peter
Stroud,
www.65amps.comSheryl
Crow's lead guitarist from 1999 to present, also played one
tour with Don Henley as his lead guitarist in 2000. He
played in the Atlanta local music scene around the mid to
late 80’s with bands including Shebang, Caesar Speaks and
Blue Picasso. He toured with Athens-based Dreams so Real in
the early 90’s and went on to record and tour world wide
with Seattle recording artist Pete Droge for four years up
until joining Sheryl Crow. He has recorded with various
artitsts including Stevie Nicks and Atlanta musician, Shawn
Mullins. He is also partnered with a close friend in a
growing boutique amplifier business called 65 Amps now being
used by a growing number of nationally recognized artists in
America, Europe, Australia and Japan.
Jeff
Carlisi,
www.campjam.com
Co-founder
and guitarist for .38 Special since its formation in Jacksonville,
FL in 1974. Their 1981 release of Wild-Eyed Southern Boys
went platinum and generated the well known Top 40 song
"Hold On Loosely." Since 2004, Jeff is
co-founder and business partner with Dan Lipson in Camp
Jam Co., a consortium of innovative music-experience
programs specifically created to teach teamwork and enrich
lives through rock ‘n’ roll, headquartered in Atlanta.
Rick
Richards, Atlanta
rock guitarist whose artistic identity and popularity took
flight in Atlanta's own, The Desperate
Angels, even before the formation of Georgia
Satellites in 1980. The
Satellites’ hit single in 1986, "Keep Your
Hands to Yourself," went all the way to #2 on
the Billboard chart.
The band called it quits after their
3rd album release in 1989, with guitarist Rick
Richards joining Izzy Stradlin's Ju Ju Hounds three years
later; while singer Dan Baird pursued a solo career.
During the mid '90s, the Georgia Satellites’ Rick
Richards and Rick Price reunited without Baird and still
play together as The Hellhounds.
Tom
Gray,commanded
The Brains, an Atlanta band
swept up in the hunt for hit new wave bands picked up
by the Mercury label in the 80’s. From Tom’s
position behind the keyboards, he wrote the song "Money
Changes Everything,” which Cyndi Lauper
wound up turning into a radio hit in 1984. Other songs Gray
has written went on to be covered by performers such
as Carlene Carter and Manfred
Mann. He pulled a change in the '90s by starting
up a combo entitled Delta Moon that specialized not in
pop, but in Delta blues. Delta Moon had
won the first prize in an international blues competition.
This is an example of a group that has pushed ahead in terms
of popularity despite absolutely no effort to be commercial.
Indeed, the band was formed after Gray became a stay-at-home
father desiring a musical project that would supposedly go
no farther than the neighborhood bar scene.
Tony
Brock, www.tonybrock.coma
founding member and drummer of The Babys, Tony has toured
and/or recorded with Rod Stewart, Elton John, Jimmy
Barnes, Jeff Beck, Bernie Taupin's Farm Dogs and Roy
Orbison. He currently owns Rockin'
Hoarse Studios, a Los Angeles
based professional recording studio.
Glenn
Phillips,web
link An
Atlantan since the age of 12, the past 40 years,
Glenn Phillips, has earned high acclaim as a inventive
rock guitarist and composer, with 12 critically acclaimed
collections of music out under his own name. Two of his
releases in the 90’s received 4-star reviews in Rolling
Stone. At the age of 17, he was a founding
member and songwriter of the legendary Hampton Grease
Band. In 1973 Phillips began his solo career. Lowell
George, the leader of Little Feat, called him "the
most amazing guitarist I've ever seen," and Phillips
frequently sat in with the band. Over the years, Phillips
has toured and recorded regularly. He's also collaborated
with artists as diverse as Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead,
and Pete Buck of REM. Phillips' 1988 recording with Henry
Kaiser received San Francisco's coveted Bammy award and
NPR has played his music for many years on All Things
Considered .
Jeff
Calder, Guitarist,
vocalist, and songwriter, Jeff Calder's career spans a
history of nearly 30 years as a member of Atlanta's own
The Swimming Pool Q's. Founded in 1978 by Calder and
guitarist Bob Elsey and singer Anne Richmond Boston,
The Q's were among the first generation of Georgia's
celebrated New Wave bands, which included The B-52's and
R.E.M. They have recorded albums for A&M,
Capitol and DB Recs. Their most recent disc, Royal
Academy of Reality (Bar-None), was released in 2003.
Calder has also pursued a career as a writer, and he
performs with his old friend Glenn Phillips in their band
the Supreme Court. The Swimming Pool Q's are
currently at work on their new album, Suddenly Not Yet.
Rex
Patton, one-time
Atlanta DJ and VJ from the 70's went on to play bass with
Atlanta's own Cruis-o-matic from 1977 to 1980, shown
in the b & w photo to the left when they opened The
Sex Pistols' historic show at Atlanta's "The Great
Southeast Music Hall" in January 1978.
Patton filled the low end with The Satellites in 1982 and
the 'Lectrifyin' Sissies' in 1986 (with Rick
Richards, Darryl Rhoades and Brendan O'Brien) which
is still an ongoing concern, whenever they can sync up
their schedules. In 2002 he teamed up with The Roosters
(which includes Spencer Kirkpatrick and Steve Pace from
Hydra) and has had the honor of backing up the legendary
Chuck Berry several times over the past 2 decades.
Spencer
Kirkpatrick, cofounder
and guitarist for Atlanta's HYDRA, which took shape
& name in 1970 with the addition of Orville Davis on
bass to the already in place, Bruce Wayne and Steve Pace.
On Capricorn, they released two albums and
spent most of the 70's playing their own
Southern Rock/ British Blues opening for a multitude of
headliner rock groups. They released
"Rock the World" (Polydor) in 1977 but
disbanded at the end of that year. Spencer
appears on discs of Wayne Bear Sauls, Eddie Stone, Donnie
McCormick and on "Georgia Jam" of Stevie
Hawkins. In 2005, Hydra reunited for a
concert which germinated an idea by
Kirkpatrick to record it and make a live disc.... their
first in 28 years appropriately titled "After All
These Years, " (available through Emphasis Records.)
By the way, did you know Spencer played with The Atlanta
Vibrations who opened for The Beatles at Atlanta Fulton
County Stadium in August 1965? www.atlantamusicgroup.com
Steve
Pace, drummer
and co-founding member of Hydra with whom he played
throughout the 70's is still an active member of
this group performing live with them whenever they
unite for a show. After the separation of Hydra in 1977,
Pace went on to play with Whitford St. Holmes in the early
80's (Brad Whitford and Derek St. Holmes) and then
the Swiss heavy metal band, Krokus, in the mid
80's , who accomplished Gold
and Platinum rankings in the “Top 100” of the American
Billboard charts during that period. Pace
currently plays with various bands including Butch and the
Buckheads and works as a studio musician. His most recent
disc, recorded with Hydra in 2005, "After
All These Years" is available through Emphasis
Records. www.atlantamusicgroup.com
Van
Temple, www.theproducers.orgsinger/songwriter/guitarist and co-founding member of
The Producers, was born in Knoxville, TN. When asked if
there was anything he would like added to his bio
for Atlanta Rock Reunion, he thoughtfully stated:
“I never wanted to be a blonde!” This Beatles
influenced group, after forming in 1979 under
another name, eventually changed their name to The
Producers in 1980 and was signed in ‘81 to Portrait
(division of CBS. ) From there they skyrocketed
during the launch of MTV with several Top Ten Videos
on the air. They set a precedence for Atlanta based
bands playing the widely televised New Years Eve MTV Ball.
After temporarily disbanding around 1984 due to executive
shuffles at their new label, MCA, the requests
for their live performances continued relentlessly,
and to this day they still play live concerts.
Van was featured vocalist on Steve Morse’s “Stand
Up” release in 1985. He still writes
original music and performs with The Producers.
Wayne
Famous, www.waynefamous.comco-founder
and keyboardist/vocalist of The Producers since its
onset in 1980 was born in Memphis but grew up from
an early age in Atlanta. His musical influence from
a young age was soul music and at age 17, in the
late sixties, he got his first break to play behind
Columbia artist Billy Joe Royal with whom he
continued to back off and on over five years as well
as playing on “big package” shows alongside many
top recording artists of the late 60’s.
Wayne continues to play today with The Producers. The top
hat image he donned in the early days earned him the
nickname “Wayne Famous” by a friend of the band
who tagged him with it during a stately entrance
into C.W. Shaws one evening. The name has stuck ever
since.
Bryan
Holmes, co-founder
and drummer/vocalist of The Producers, was born in
Carrollton GA , a native Georgian. Bryan has
continued to perform live with The Producers throughout
the years and also played drums for Kansas on their 1995
U.S. tour. Bryan has produced several CD’s
in recent years while juggling the growth and success of
his own business outside of the music field. He plans to
continue producing artists , performing, building his
family business and supporting his very talented and
artistic daughters’ endeavors.
Moses
"Mo" Moore, co
founder of Mother's Finest, he joined up with Glenn
Murdock and Joyce Kennedy one month after graduating from
high school 1970. As lead guitarist, Mo's ingrained
influences of funk fused with rock made him known as one
of the most high energy guitarists of the time. Now, 37
years later, he still plays with Mother's Finest touring
Europe and the U.S. In 2002, Mo released his first solo
collection "Cartoon You" on Hed Rhythm Records. www.moses-mo.slatdesigns.com
